A Defence Pure maintains a low Combat level and has high Defence. Most Defence pures train at monks or seagulls depending on whether they want to AFK or gain fast experience. When player-killing, other players have a large window of opportunity to escape from a Defence pure due to their weak attacks. Other players also find it difficult to kill Defence pures due to their ability to tank hits. Defence pures excel at staking but most players know not to stake them. They are usually created for vanity.
With the introduction of the Serpentine helm, Defence pures have been given a great damage increase. This makes them even better at fighting opponents who don't have the ability to escape, such as when staking or in a minigame. Other sources of damage for Defence pures are poisoned daggers such as the iron dagger or bone dagger and the Dragonfire Shield. The poison deals six damage every 15 seconds, and the dragonfire shield special attack deals up to 25 damage and can be used every two minutes.
It is recommended to use a Red topaz machete for training until you have the money for a Strength-based setup. The Maple blackjack (d) will give you a +20 Strength bonus with the only requirement being 30 Thieving and 30 Defence. If you are a F2P player, using an Event rpg or iron scimitar is recommended.
Types of Defence Pures
Gadderhammer
The Gadderhammer Defence Pure deals the most damage. It can be used in more training areas than the usual monks and seagulls. The pure is five combat levels above a standard Defence Pure because the quests required raise your Attack and Strength levels to 6 and your Prayer level to 15.
The Dwarven helmet from the quest Grim Tales gives a +6 bonus to crush. The quest requires you to have 45 Farming, 52 Herblore, 58 Thieving (boostable), 59 Agility, 71 Woodcutting (boostable), and you must have completed Witch's House.
You can also use a Fighter hat, which has a +5 bonus in all attack styles which you get from Barbarian Assault.
