The Orange tree must be grown with the Farming skill. Level 39 farmers may plant an orange tree seed in a plant pot that has been filled with dirt from any empty gardening patch. A gardening trowel is needed to plant the seed, then it must be watered. The potted plant will become an Orange seedling. This action is all performed in the inventory or backpack section of the screen.

After 15 minutes or less, the seedling will become an Orange sapling and can then be transferred to a Fruit tree patch. The fruit tree patch must be raked clean of weeds. Compost or Super Compost may be added prior to planting, and once planted (using a spade and trowel), the nearby farmer may be paid to watch over your tree. Payment is 3 baskets of strawberries (15 total, and must be in baskets, though the baskets may be noted to save space).

An orange tree sapling will take roughly 16 hours to mature. An Amulet of Nature may be bound to check the progress. Once mature, the tree produces up to six oranges at a time.

Planting the orange tree sapling gives 35 farming experience. A healthy orange tree, when checked, provides 2,470.2 farming experience. If the farmer does not watch the tree, then disease on the tree may be removed using secateurs. However, if left alone, the diseased tree will die.

Each orange, when picked, gives 13.5 farming experience. Once all 6 oranges have been picked, the tree will slowly produce more oranges until all 6 are available again. However, the oranges may be picked anytime they show on the tree.

Many mid to high level farmers like to train their farming by growing these trees, as the seeds are very cheap compared to other trees that don't give nearly as much experience per coin used.
