|A finely balanced throwing axe.|
The rune thrownaxe is the strongest of the throwing axes, requiring level 40 Ranged to wield.
It has a unique special attack that ricochets off the target and hits multiple other opponents in a multi-combat area.It can hit up to 5 per spec. Each hit costs 10%. For example: 3 hits is 30%, 1 is 10%, and 5 is 50%.
Many players use this in Waterbirth Island Dungeon as an efficient way of reaching the Dagannoth Kings. This is because with a pet rock and the rune thrownaxe, the player can open the doors without a need of a partner. The rune thrownaxe's special attack allows it to destroy all three barricade supports without having a partner to attack it from behind.
Throwing axes are the 3rd strongest of the 4 sub-class ranged weapons, being stronger than knives and darts of the same level, but having lower damage per minute due to their reduced attack speed. They beat rune javelins by only a short amount. To stop people from ignoring throwing axes they were given this special attack some time after their release with the other sub-weapons to promote use of them.
Darts and knives attack at roughly twice the speed of throwing axes.
