| • No one likes crabs...|
Disguised as sandy rocks:
• A sandy outcrop.
Unlike most other enemies and NPCs, Sand crabs are not marked with yellow dots on the player's minimap; this is probably due to the crabs' appearance, which camouflages them as sand lumps. In addition, they are immune to the effects of the dwarf multicannon.
Sand crabs become unaggressive if the player has not left the surrounding area in 10 minutes. To make the crabs aggressive again, exit the surrounding area (run near the Player Owned House portal to the North) and enter again. As they are "dormant" until "awoken" by a passing player, sand crabs cannot be attacked until they are made aggressive once more.
They hit fairly low, but low level players should bring food. Sand crabs are excellent for training at all combat levels, due to their low Defence and high Hitpoints, which makes them easy to kill. Compared to rock crabs, they have 10 more hitpoints which makes them an even better choice for training than their rocky counterparts. This means they may be even more frequented than rock crabs.
Sand crabs are especially useful for training your character in with very little attention need, and as a result of this they are quite crowded on most worlds. Leaving your character in a square adjacent to two sand crabs gives ten minutes of background exp farming, at over 25k/hr.
The new larger sand crab counterpart, King Sand Crabs were released with the new Catacombs batch of updates under Great Kourend.
