Enemies to defeat

Walkthrough

Head down to southern Karamja. Speak to Timfraku upstairs in the hut south-west of the house with the anvil, and deliver the news about Trufitus' successful Jungle Potion beginning by telling him that Trufitus sent you. He will tell you to talk to each of his three sons: Tamayu, Tiadeche, and Tinsay.

TBW Trio Map

A map of Southern Karamja.

Tamayu

Items needed: Steel spear or better, small fishing net, pestle and mortar, 1 agility potion(4) or 2 agility potion(3), logs (optional), tinderbox (optional)

You can find Tamayu south-east of the village at the mine. He will return to Tai Bwo Wannai only once he has killed The Shaikahan. Talk to him again, and ask him when will he succeed. He'll invite you to come with him on his next hunt. A cutscene appears with Tamayu fighting The Shaikahan and failing to defeat it.

Tamayu will tell you that he needs a better spear (DO NOT give him yours until you have poisoned it with karambwan, which is explained below) and to become as quick as The Shaikahan.

Warning: You will not get your spear back once you've given it to Tamayu, so make sure you are willing to lose the spear.

You need to poison the spear with karambwan, a poisonous octopus native to Karamja. Go north of the Tai Bwo Wannai shop, and talk to Lubufu by the fishing icon on the southern shore of Brimhaven. He asks you to leave, but talk to him again. Ask him what he does by selecting the "Talk about him..." option, then select "How old are you?", then select "What do you use for bait?", then select "Talk about him..." again, then finally select "What do you do?". Offer to help him collect bait and then say that he sounds like he could do with the help. He will then tell you to catch 20 karambwanji.

Go to the lake south of Tai Bwo Wannai (near fairy ring code ckr), and net-fish in the fishing spots and get 21 karambwanji (the extra one will be needed to give to Tiadeche later in the quest). You may receive raw shrimps as well, simply drop them. You will need at least 21 karambwanji or more if you are catching the karambwan on your own (65 Fishing) or you did not buy any raw karambwan beforehand.

Go give them to Lubufu, ask him what he uses to catch karambwan followed by what he does with them, and he will offer you apprenticeship and give you a karambwan vessel (also grants 1500 Fishing experience).

Use the drop trick (dropping the vessel then talking to Lubufu) to get multiple vessels if you do not have 65 Fishing or raw karambwans (from buying at the Grand Exchange). Tell him a shark ate it. You may obtain several vessels yourself for future use as you will need to give one to Tiadeche later in the quest.

Obtaining the poisoned karambwan paste

Method 1: The fastest way to acquire the paste is to simply buy a raw karambwan from the Grand Exchange, use a tinderbox and logs to make a fire, and cook the karambwan (you may need to buy several in case you burn one). If you did not bring tinderbox and logs, you can cook the karambwan with the fireplace at Brimhaven east of Lubufu. Cooking the karambwan will give you a light-green poison karambwan.

Method 2: If you have level 65 Fishing, simply fish at the spot near Lubufu. If you try to fish at Lubufu's spot before you complete his task he will tell you, "Get away from my spot, whippersnapper." It is NOT possible to boost to or above level 65, otherwise Lubufu will tell you you cannot use his fishing spot.

Once you catch a raw karambwan, cook it at a fire or range (there is a range just east of Lubufu). Cooking the karambwan will give you a light-green poison karambwan. If you burn it, simply go back to the fishing spot and fish another one to cook.

Method 3: If you do not have level 65 Fishing, go to the north-east corner of the jungle to find Tiadeche. Go east of Tai Bwo Wannai, cross the log at the river, and then head all the way north. You can also use the fairy ring code dkp to teleport right next to him.

Find Tiadeche and talk to him. Give him your full karambwan vessel (with a karambwanji in it) and he will be surprisedto get a raw karambwan. Your karambwan vessel will be lost in the process, however you will be able to buy them back after the quest. Cook the raw karambwan using a fire (with logs and a tinderbox) or go to Brimhaven and use the range there. Cooking the karambwan will give you a light-green poison karambwan.

Warning: If you accidentally burn the karambwan, you will need to get 65 Fishing and fish in the spot next to Lubufu. This problem applies mainly to ironman accounts.
Tai Bwo Wannai Trio Shaikahan

Tamayu fights the Shaikahan.

After doing any of the methods above, grind the poison karambwan with a pestle and mortar and then apply the paste to your spear (right click the poison karambwan to use it, left clicking will make the player eat it). Head back to Tamayu and give him the agility potion(s) and the spear(kp). Afterwards, ask him to take you on his next hunt. He will successfully defeat The Shaikahan and agree to return to Tai Bwo Wannai after you help his brothers and speak to his father.

Tiadeche

Items needed: Karambwan vessel, raw karambwanji

Tai Bwo Wannai Trio Tiadeche

Tiadeche catches a karambwan.

Note: If you did Method 2 for obtaining the poison karambwan paste, you can skip below to Tinsay.

Go to the north-east corner of the jungle, marked by fishing spots on the map. If running, head east from Tamayu and cross the river using the log balance near the gnome glider. Then run north until you reach Tiadeche. You can also use fairy ring code DKP. Talk to him.

Tiadeche will go back to Tai Bwo Wannai after you teach him how to catch karambwan. Fill your vessel with karambwanji and give him your full karambwan vessel. He is surprised to finally get a catch and as a reward, you receive his first catch; a raw karambwan. Speak to him again and he will ask you to bring a fishing vessel to Tinsay to figure out how the vessel is made.

Note: Kill a jogre located south, near the gnome glider, while departing from Tiadeche to get jogre bones for later.

Tinsay

You can find Tinsay on Cairn Isle, southwest of fairy ring code CKR, which is up the rock slide and across the bridge (Agility level 15 required to climb and cross) from the structure south-west from Tamayu. You may fail multiple times and take damage, so food may be needed. Talk to him. He'll tell you that he's trying to repair the tribal statue in the village. He's lost his sanity recently due to some "accident" with a jogre. He needs 3 special local items.

Banana rum

Items needed: Banana, Karamjan rum, knife

Tinsay will first ask to bring him a Karamjan rum with banana in it. Buy some Karamjan rum at the Musa Point pub. Take a banana and slice it using a knife - both can be found on the tables in the nearby General Store. Use the sliced banana (right click) with the Karamjan rum.

DO NOT teleport if you are holding a Karamjan rum as this will break the bottle. Slicing a banana then adding it to the rum prevents the bottle from breaking when teleporting, although it will still be taken away by a Customs officer if travelling by ship. You can check if your rum has a banana in it by examining it with the text saying, "The Karamjan rum has slices of banana floating in it".

Note: DO NOT use a whole banana on the rum without slicing it. It will create a joke item; a banana stuffed into the top of the bottle. While comical, it forces the player to return to Musa Point to collect another bottle of rum and a banana.

Return to Tinsay and give him the rum with banana.

Seaweed sandwich

Items needed: Seaweed, monkey corpse, a Ranged or Magic method to kill monkey.

Tinsay is not yet satisfied to return and wants you to bring him a seaweed sandwich, only with monkey skin instead of bread. Pick up some seaweed from the shore south of Cairn Isle (the island that Tinsay is on). Then kill a level 3 monkey neraby with Magic or Ranged since you can't Melee it. Give the corpse to Tamayu (near the mining place) to get it skinned. Tamayu will not skin the monkey unless you have completed his section of the quest, so make sure to do that first! You'll get monkey bones and skin. Use the skin with the seaweed to make a sandwich. Give it to Tinsay.

Note: Likewise, DO NOT use a monkey corpse on the seaweed before taking the monkey to Tamayu for skinning. This will create a stuffed monkey, another joke item; however, Tamayu will still skin the monkey for you. You do not need to collect another monkey corpse or more seaweed.

Marinated jogre bones

Items needed: Jogre bones, raw karambwanji, pestle and mortar, logs and tinderbox.

Tinsay needs one final item to satisfy him. You now need to get some burnt jogre bones marinated in karambwanji sauce. First, kill a level 53 jogre, and take the bones. Be careful not to bury the bones!

Use jogre bones with a tinderbox to burn them and wait for the fire to go out to collect the burnt bones. If you are below level 30 in Firemaking, you will not be able to burn the jogre bones with a tinderbox, and you will have to burn them in the nearest furnace.

Next, catch another karambwanji, and grind it with your pestle and mortar; make sure it is raw! Then, add the paste to the burnt bones to get pasty jogre bones. Don't left click because you can still bury the pasty jogre bones. Cook the pasty jogre bones on a range or fire to marinate them, then give them to Tinsay.

After eating the bones, Tinsay will regain his sanity and agree to return to Tai Bwo Wannai.

Crafting manual

Items needed: Karambwan vessel

Before leaving Cairn Isle, use your karambwan vessel on Tinsay who, in return, will give you a crafting manual. You need to go back to Tiadeche and give the manual to him. He will now return to the village along with the other brothers.

If you didn't pick up an extra vessel earlier, talk to Lubufu again. Tell him that a shark or karambwan stole your vessel to get a replacement and fill it up with a raw karambwanji from the fishing spot south of Tai Bwo Wannai Village.

After you're done with all three brothers, return to the village. Upon arrival, talk to the Timfraku again for your reward, and ask for some gold. You can then talk to each of the three brothers in their local shops (inside Tai Bwo Wannai Village) for an additional reward.
